7 years ago I was in corporate, on the partner track. I had the whole thing mapped: stay 10 years, collect the crazy benefits, make partner. I wasn't dreaming about leaving. I actually saw myself in that building on 3rd Avenue for the next decade.

Last week LinkedIn showed me how real that was. Someone I started at the hedge-fund with straight out of college just made partner. That was literally what I imagined myself doing.

If you had told corporate me that I'd walk away, build my own brands online without ever showing my face, and never work a 9-to-5 again, I would have called you delusional.

Work from anywhere. Travel when I want. Wake up on a random Thursday with no meetings, walk into a little flower shop cafe in Queens and order my halal beef bacon, egg, and cheese with an iced coffee at 7:33 am like it's the most normal thing in the world.

Delusional. Every word of it, to the person I was then.

This is my normal Thursday as I’m writing this letter right now.

And I have watched sentences I made du’a for years ago materialize years later. I remember envisioning the life.

I just did not understand that I was looking at something Allah would eventually bring to me.

Think about what du’a really is.

You speak into the unseen. You ask the Owner of everything for a life that does not exist yet. You know Allah is Al-Mujib, the One who answers.

By every worldly standard, that's delusion.

But Allah says:

“I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me…” Qur’an 2:186

I've watched sentences I said out loud 7 years ago materialize 6 years later. I remember envisioning that life. I just never realized that I was watching my own future get coded.

You can ask Allah for something beyond what you can currently see.

The Qur’an does not describe Jannah in abstractions. It makes you see it: gardens beneath which rivers flow, rivers of milk whose taste never changes, rivers of honey, rivers of wine that delight without intoxicating (47:15). It makes you see the other side too, down to the tree of Zaqqum rising from the base of the Hellfire (44:43-46). The Qur'an moves hearts through vivid pictures. Seeing the destination clearly is a form of being conscious.

So yes. Visualize the life. See the Thursday morning in detail.

Then be delusional correctly because du’a has conditions.

Call upon Allah while being certain of being answered (Tirmidhi 3479).

The Prophet ﷺ said your du’a is answered so long as you are not hasty i.e. saying I supplicated and received no response (Bukhari 6340). 6 years passed between my words. Sometimes you don't have the capacity to receive and hold what you're asking for so it takes time to build you up.

Sins can block rizq as it is warned that a man is deprived of provision because of a sin he commits (Ibn Majah 4022). You need vision AND du’a AND spiritual discipline.

You already know the hadith (Tirmidhi 2517).

Trust in Allah completely and still tie the camel.
